Estimate raw, usable, effective, and growth-adjusted capacity from transparent vendor-neutral assumptions. Planning aid only - not a vendor commitment or guarantee.

How this is calculated

Methodology

  • TB = 10^12 bytes; TiB = 2^40 bytes.
  • Overhead model: usable = raw * (1 - protection - reserve - snapshot). The sum must stay under 100%.
  • Data-reduction ratio is a multiplier: 1.0 = no reduction; 2.0 = 2:1; 3.0 = 3:1.
  • Effective capacity = usable * ratio. Headroom-adjusted = effective * (1 - headroom).
  • Growth projection uses compound annual growth on effective capacity.
  • Capacity-required mode: input is the target effective/app-level capacity needed today.
  • Results are directional planning estimates. They are not vendor-certified configurations or sizing guarantees.

This is a vendor-neutral planning aid. Confirm results against applicable vendor documentation and your own workload testing before making capacity decisions.
